Foreign exchange students juggle new school, country, language

That's definitely true for Igor Groffe, who traveled more than 4,000 miles to attend classes at Central High School in La Crosse.
Now he's dealing with different start times and classes.
And a different language.
"It's hard because I can understand, but I can't really talk," said the 16-year-old from Marseille, France. "I don't have lots of vocabulary. I just listen."
Groffe is one of seven exchange students who started classes with the La Crosse School District earlier this month.
Exchange students are treated like any other student, which allows them to take their own approach to school work and fully live the educational experience, said Barb Everson-Bunton, a Central counselor.
"We want them to get the education," she said. "It's good for our students to learn our language."
Inma Vidal, an exchange student from a city on the northern coast of Spain called Santander, also recently started at Central. Like Groffe, she understands English but takes time to carefully think of a response before speaking.
