Designing a Mechanical Trading System: Part II
Part II: Exit Strategies
In the last installment we decided to go through the process of designing a swing trading system. We covered the conditions that prepare us for a trade (but don’t trigger an actual trade) and the actual trigger to enter a position.
The condition was price approaching support or resistance levels as determined by our price channels. Again, these can be picked out by most visually; however, the price channel helps bring the eyes to the correct area.
The trigger (or pre-trigger) was getting one of two reversal bars.
The final requirement was for the reversal bar high or low to be broken at which point our stop order would be triggered. We also agreed that we would use the reversal bar high (if short) or low (if long) as our initial stop loss.
